Vincerò!

Vincero daylily

The photo by my friend Bob Benbow says it all.

Vincerò! (2007) Spanish Glow x Persimmon Punch

Tetraploid, 5, 30, Dormant, Midseason, 27 buds on 6 branches. Color is an orange blend that grows vibrantly intense in heat and humidity. Clean foliage, even in times when most of the garden is showing daylily rust, vigorous growth, fertile both ways. I selected it in 1999 and it has been turning heads ever since. The plants are healthy and vigorous, the scapes wonderful. The Italian word, "Vincerò!" is the last word of the famous tenor aria, "Nessun dorma" from Puccini's opera, Turandot.  It means, "I will win!" and is more glorious heard, and seen here in the garden, than read on a page!
